Bathroom Design

Lighting

In fact, according to makeup artists, the biggest problem with women doing their own makeup is the poorly lit bathroom and the mirror that's too small. It turns out that the best lighting for cleaning or finding a lost contact lens is the worst lighting for using a mirror to get ready for that night on the town.

Optimized Storage

It's not how much space you have, it's how you use the space. Even a small bathroom can be functional if the vanity is properly fit and the drawers and shelves are in the right spot.

Day's End

A great way to unwind at the end of the day is to relax in a hot bath. Today there are incredible soaking and jetted tubs available. If space allows, the tub deck can be used for candles, jars of sea salts, soft cozy towels, or plants to add softness.

Shower Power

Some people prefer a large walk-in shower. In today's market the sky is the limit: multiple body jets, handheld shower heads, ceiling mount rain shower heads, and seating for function or just to let the water run over you.

Whether a remodel, renovation, or new construction, your bathroom and kitchen are the most valuable real estate in your home. These are the spaces that will either sell your home or make it languish on the market for days on end. And if you are planning to stay in the home, these are the spaces you will use and appreciate the most.

Bathrooms have become bigger and better today. The more stressful life becomes the more important this space becomes. Here are some bathrooms we have redesigned.

Bethesda

This young professional couple loves their neighborhood and didn't want to move to a larger home so remodeling was the course they chose. Their style is on the contemporary side without being over-the-top modern. Soft blues, greens, taupe and brown comprise the pervading color scheme throughout the house. When it came time to remodel the two small bathrooms, we wanted to continue the soft palette there as well.

Typical of the home's era were the black/white and pink/gray small tiles. A definite revamp was needed. As you can see from the photos, small bathrooms can be functional and elegant.

High Praise from the Customer

"We wanted to thank you for the outstanding work that you have done, not only on the total renovation of our bathrooms but for the broad range of services you have provided in our home. Our home has been "transformed" over the years with total room redecorations and bathroom replacements to updates on window treatments, painting, art work framing and accessories.

"You have taken the time to get to know our likes and dislikes but also offer new suggestions for that we would not have thought of. It is always a pleasure to work with you. Not only do we love the results but your responsiveness, accommodation of busy schedules and getting things done in a timely manner have been reasons we continue to contact you for our decorating needs. I don't recommend people lightly but have referred you to several friends and will continue to."

Baltimore County Home

Our job description for this Bel Air home is to create a large, functional and elegant master suite. This will be done by fusing together the existing bedroom, bath with small walk in closet, and office to give the client all the things they are lacking in the existing format.

This couple has chosen to remodel their home for two main purposes. One is to stay through their aging years without having to leave their home for more accessible spaces. Second, should they decide after retirement they would prefer to downsize, the remodel will bring the much needed updates to promote a successful sale. We will provide continuity from the front door and foyer area throughout by replacing the tile floors with wood to match the existing flooring.

Bel Air Bath

Walking up the entry stairs to this Bel Air split level, the first thing you saw was the wall of the kitchen. By removing this wall and adding the great cook top island the whole area became more open for entertaining and having the family together during meal prep.

The stainless range hood keeps the cooking smells and any smoke out of the main area and also adds to the updated look along with the glass/stainless pendants.

Having a small master bath can be frustrating. Every inch of space is crucial. Besides better use of space and updated fixtures, the clients wanted Art Deco style, black and white theme, better lighting, and a larger shower.

We strategically placed a few recessed lights and positioned side lights by the mirror. The under-vanity lighting also gave the light level a need boost. We replaced the small floor tiles with 18-inch white tiles with small black corner clips to give the illusion of more space.

Bradbury has a wonderful line of papers and we used them on part of the walls to give it that fun Art Deco look. Using a single lever faucet on the vanity takes less room when placed at a 45 degree angle. Silestone has a great collection of quartz surfaces to choose from and this one has silver shiny flecks that resemble glitter being strewn on its top.

The result is a more pleasant bathroom experience now that the renovation is complete.

Stevenson Renovation

This client recently relocated from a large house to this townhouse and needed both the master bath and powder rooms renovated. A complete gut is being done on the master bath. Powder room gets new plumbing, vanity and flooring.
