Kitchen Design
The kitchen is the heart of the home. Perhaps that is why kitchen design sells the home. If you want to upgrade your home, start by designing a functional, beautiful kitchen for today’s homeowner. If you are in the market to remodel your kitchen, here are some ideas to keep in mind.
Kitchen Remodeling: Stations
The working triangle is functional but not always the best solution in modern kitchens. The trend is toward creating “stations” for the modern, busy lifestyles.
Coffee Station
Coffee machines now come complete with everything but the barista. Coffee stations are really great to have when these appliances are in place: mugs, demitasse cups, flavorings, sprinkles, and creamers. The coffee station puts all this right at your fingertips.
Salad Station
Since health and fitness on everyone’s mind, the “salad station” has also become popular. Refrigerator drawers for all your fresh produce (add some cheese?) are ideal for this area. Large salad bowls, serving bowls, tossing utensils, spices, croutons, and a selection of dressings complete the space.
Prep and Go
Why not put the kids to work prepping lunches for school? A lowered counter helps kids help themselves and makes the school morning more efficient.
Wine Station
Wonderful wine coolers are available for the wine station and can eliminate the guesswork from temperature control. Add under cabinet stemware holders for the beautiful glasses. Add under cabinet lighting to give you adequate and great looking light in which to work. Storing and displaying everything in one location makes entertaining a breeze.
Beauty, Function & Value
Just as location sets the value in real estate, the kitchen sets the value of your home. Here are some examples of clients that appreciate their new kitchens.

Summer Hill Kitchen
This Summer Hill client wanted the kitchen to have better function, adding storage, as well as aesthetically pleasing with a total remodel. The bulk head was removed to bring the cabinets to the ceiling. Moving the refrigerator to where the microwave had been opened that end for more counter space and cabinets. Fronting the new refrigerator and dishwasher with the cabinet material made the room feel warmer and less chopped up.
A new tile back splash and under cabinet lighting gives a more clean open feel. Granite counter tops are more user friendly than the old laminate that will melt and burn. The owner had seen this deep farm sink years before in a magazine, fell in love with the look and wanted to incorporate both it and the faucets into the design.
A flat glass cook top is sleek and easier to clean than the coil top. New stainless double ovens finish off the work side. Our wall of cabinets, where the old buffet stood, gives ample pantry storage. The serving area with lighted china style top cabinet display accessories or glassware. The beige tile floor was replaced with larger terra cotta tiles.
Bel Air Kitchen
Walking up the entry stairs to this Bel Air split level, the first thing you saw was the wall of the kitchen. By removing this wall and adding the great cook top island the whole area became more open for entertaining and having the family together during meal prep. The stainless range hood keeps the cooking smells and any smoke out of the main area and also adds to the updated look along with the glass/stainless pendants.
Frederick Basement Kitchen
This active family needs to fully use its basement space as the children are getting to the age for "entertaining". A blank section of wall and space was the perfect spot to add the "entertaining " kitchen area.
Located just outside a guest bedroom this spot was just a vacant corner catching storage clutter. Cherry cabinets, black galaxy granite and mirrored and glass tile walls were the starting point. Mini refrigerator, bar sink, microwave and a wine cooler add the "entertainment" section.
Floating glass shelves on the mirrored wall add just the right amount of function and display to enhance the small space. Lighting all the glass and mirror makes this corner a truly bright spot in the basement.
